…a Juried Fine Art Exhibition and Sale of traditional and representational Indiana art following the legacy of the artists who founded the Brown County Art Colony in the early 1900s.

Important Exhibition Dates

Call for Entry Rules

  • Artist must be 18 years or older and a current or former resident of Indiana
  • Artist must be a current member of Indiana Heritage Arts, Inc. Memberships can be renewed or become a member with your entry. Entry fee $30, annual dues $35. Both fees may be paid with entry submission. No refunds
  • IHA board members are eligible to exhibit, however they are exempt from receiving awards

Each artist may enter up to 3 paintings for consideration. IHA strongly encourages artists to submit their best and freshest works.

  • Two-dimensional work only
  • Painting: oils, acrylics, alkyd, watercolor, casein and egg tempera, pastels, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media
  • Work not on canvas must be under glass or plexi
  • Work should be executed in the spirit of the traditional early Indiana artists
  • Photography or computer art is not allowed
  • Work completed under the supervision of an instructor, copies of other artists’ works or published photographs are prohibited
  • All submitted work must be available for purchase
  • Maximum framed size: 57″ x 57″
  • Work must be properly framed and ready to hang. Frames must be sturdy enough to support the artwork and in good repair
  • Frame must be wired for hanging, strap hangers only. IHA reserves the right to reject inadequate framing; mats and glass must be clean
  • Wet paintings or gallery wraps are not permitted
  • NO exception to these rules. Failure to meet these rules will result in rejection of work and admittance in show. Show committee has the final decision

Over $20,000 in cash prizes will be awarded

  • IHA Gold $5,000
  • IHA Silver $3,000
  • IHA Bronze $2,000
  • Director’s Purchase Award
  • Awards of Excellence $1,000
  • Memorial and Merit Awards $250-$500
  • People’s Choice Award $500
  • Ada Shulz Memorial Award for works featuring children with pets or figures in gardens
  • C. Curry Bohm Memorial Award for winter scenes or street scenes of Nashville, Indiana

All entries and payment must be completed online.

You are required to upload images of your work. Please submit 1 unframed image per entry. We suggest preparing your digital images before you apply. It is in your best interest to submit a high resolution, high quality image as submitted images will be used for online and print promotions.

How to prepare your images for upload:

  • Name each file with your last name, first initial and the title of the artwork, for example: SMITH J – Beautiful Painting.jpg
  • JPEG / JPG file format only
  • File dimensions: 1920 pixels on the longest side
  • File size: 5 MB maximum
  • Submit images in correct orientation (vertical or horizontal)
  • Submit 1 image per painting entered. Do not include the frame in your image
  • Digital enhancement not allowed
  • Sides or photographs not accepted

  • All paintings must be available for sale during the exhibition
  • Sales may be made in person or by calling the Brown County Art Gallery at 812.988.4609
  • Indiana Heritage Arts, Inc. retains a 33% commission on all sales
  • Prices may not be changed after submission
  • Indiana Heritage Arts, Inc. will collect and remit Indiana Sales Tax
  • All sold artwork will remain on display throughout the Exhibition & Sale. Artwork may be picked up between July 11-16, 2022
  • Entrants will be emailed a PDF with their completed painting tags within 24 hours of completing of their online entry. If you do not receive your email within 24 hours please check your junk/spam folder or contact IHA
  • Print and securely attach an entry card to the back of each painting
  • Should an artist need additional tags or have an entry change, blank tags will be available during drop off at the Gallery
  • Once you have received an email confirmation of your entry, visit our website IndianaHeritageArts.org to schedule a drop-off day or deliver your painting on Open Drop- off Day — Sunday, May 22, 10 am – 4 pm, no appointment needed. 
  • Drop-offs will be in the Stevens Art Studio; entrance is on the right as you are walking up to the Gallery
  • All COVID19 protocols will be in effect, masks and social distancing are required while inside
  • The Gallery office will be closed to artists
  • If you do not receive your entry confirmation email within 24 hours, please contact IHA
  • If you are having difficulty uploading an image, reduce the file size to 5MB or less
  • A painting tag must be securely attached to the back of each painting entered
  • Late entries will not be accepted
  • New entries will not be accepted on drop-off days
  • A list of juried artists and accepted works will be posted on our IHA website and social media platforms on June 7, 2022
  • Award winners will be posted on our IHA website and social media platforms June 10, 2022 after 6:00 pm
  • All works not juried into the show will be available for pickup June 7. Please call the Brown County Art Gallery in advance to schedule a time for pickup – 812.988.4609
